We are looking for an

IoT Software Engineer

An experienced Full-Stack Software Engineer to lead the scaling of our smart energy data platform, as we expand across new markets

Note: This position is based in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. While we are big proponents of remote working and have a flexible approach when it comes to location, this will be a key team member who we expect to be (mostly) co-located with our core team.

About us

We are a start-up company that uses innovative digital technologies to drive forward sustainable energy access in some of the most remote parts of the world. With headquarters in Amsterdam, we run an online monitoring and management platform for solar powered off-grid energy systems. Our solution makes these systems smart, it makes them easier and cheaper to run, and makes sure the power stays on day and night.

AMMP runs energy systems on five continents, and our data pipeline processes over 50 million data points daily. With our latest round of funding, we are currently scaling up our presence in key markets in Sub-Saharan Africa and South-East Asia.

We strongly believe that social impact and business growth can be combined. And we are looking for people that share this vision and want to make a difference. If you want to be part of a results-oriented company that is at the top of its game, while working in a highly collaborative and friendly environment, please read on!

The role

We are looking for a senior software engineer to lead the scale-up of our software platform. While being responsible for managing the implementation of a range of functionality in the near term, you will also lead the longer-term platform architecture. We are looking for an experienced developer with a strong back-end skillset, and a focus on production-grade software development practices. We also hope you share our beliefs that:

  • Keeping it simple is (almost) always the best approach
  • Leveraging open-source components and open architectures can be a major enabler of scale-up with limited resources
  • Finding quick ways to test and validate how functionality matches user needs is key to successful growth as a start-up

Your responsibilities

  • Developing, managing, and improving our data pipeline: including API integrations, time-series data processing and storage, and novel analytics and control functionality
  • Evolving the AMMP front-end
  • Guiding long-term product roadmap and architecture
  • Managing, coaching, and mentoring other members of the software development team

Our team thrives on constant learning and knowledge exchange; we do not expect you to come into this job with answers to every question. That said, we expect you to contribute some key subject matter expertise to the way we run software development and operations at AMMP.

Must have

  • 3+ years of professional software development experience: you are someone who has built and shipped production software
  • Back-end development in the context of APIs/web services and/or data pipelines; our back-end is built in Python and Go, so experience with either or both of these is preferred
  • Collaborative thinking and excellent communication skills
  • High level of self-management and drive

Nice to have

  • Some front-end development experience (focus on Vue, React)
  • Experience with software development in the context of IoT and time-series data
  • Experience with energy and/or emerging markets is a plus
  • Dev ops experience is a plus
  • Experience in an international environment

Every day, we work hard to build a working culture that represents our mission and values. This includes a friendly and open atmosphere, a high degree of flexibility with regard to working times and locations, as well as a dedicated focus on personal growth.

Some of the key benefits:

  • Top-notch international team of highly motivated colleagues
  • Flexible and fun working culture
  • High degree of responsibility, with exceptional opportunities for professional development
  • Strong global network in renewables and energy access
  • Competitive compensation package, including stock options
